With the 2013 NFL season under way, anyone can see there are vital components necessary to establish the foundation for a successful team. What is true on the football field often proves to be true in the personal lives of players throughout the NFL. Many players past, present, and future would agree that their wife or significant other is the anchor of a successful home. Understanding this, various clubs throughout the NFL have taken a proactive approach to support and inform the women of the vast array of resources at their hands. Throughout the month of September the Oakland Raiders, Indianapolis Colts, and the Jacksonville Jaguars, among others, hosted women’s luncheons to establish and foster relationships, provide assistance, as well as provide player benefits education.
While there were differences about each luncheon the common theme of care and concern for the women was demonstrated by a cohesive effort between NFL Player Engagement, Community Relations and club Player Engagement Directors. The recent launching of NFLPE’s Women’s Resource Initiative site was highlighted as a tangible resource specific to the needs of the audience. NFL security directors extended their services and explained their roles and how they can assist the families’ transition into a specific locale. Benefit presentations covered everything from Total Wellness, the NFL Player Insurance Plan, to retirement benefits and what to expect in the future. The ambiance stimulated great questions and feedback to assist these women on the frontline.
With the focus and strain of making an NFL roster each year the women who stand alongside their men are often are the “gatekeepers” to all that concerns the welfare of the home. While the task is great, the strength and resolve of each woman proves to persevere against all odds.
