Joined by over 60 high school football coaches from across the state of Ohio, the Cleveland Browns hosted the NFL High School Football Coaches Forum Friday inside The Draft Room of FirstEnergy Stadium. Browns Head Coach Hue Jackson provided the event’s opening remarks, welcoming an eager and energetic group of coaches with varying levels of high school coaching experience.
One of only ten such events offered by the NFL across its 32 national markets, high school football coaches were invited to a free event to participate in a variety of round-table discussions and guest panels on topics covering health and safety, enhancing student-athlete development, today’s student-athlete, interacting with officials, accountability, an athlete’s perspective on the influence of coaches, X’s and O’s football strategy, and building character in student-athletes.
The NFL High School Football Coaches Forum dives into topics far beyond the physical and schematic aspects of football. Throughout the day, panelists provided thoughtful insight on heavy issues such as setting examples for success, relating to and communicating with coed athletes in a changing social environment, developing young men and women leaders, and understanding how today’s digital environment effects student-athletes.
Participating in the various panels and forums were coaches, current and former professional and collegiate athletes, as well as player engagement representatives from both the NFL and Cleveland Browns. Each of the day’s sessions lasted from twenty to fifty-five minutes.
The esteemed presenters and panelists included Eric Sanders (Cleveland Browns Defensive Quality Control Coach), Bob Saunders (Cleveland Browns Offensive Quality Control Coach), Chuck Kyle (Saint Ignatius Head Coach and USA Football Master Trainer), Jamie Meder(Cleveland Browns Defensive Lineman), Kyle Payton (Senior, Kent State University), Mitchell Shegos (Student-Athlete, Notre Dame College), Kesheaun Hocton (Student-Athlete, Notre Dame College), Roman Oben (12 year NFL veteran and NFL Director of Youth Football), Jerry Horwitz (NFL Senior Director of High School Player Development), and Ron Brewer (Cleveland Browns Manager of Player Engagement).
