Transition Assistance Program To Take Place In October

NFL Player Engagement will hold its second Transition Assistance Program (TAP) at Georgia Tech this Fall. From October 26th to October 29th, TAP will provide resources to you and your family about the essential components of transitioning to life beyond football. Optimized for recently retired players, TAP focuses on the physical, psychological, and socioeconomic aspects of transitioning out of the NFL.

NFL- trained Transition Coaches (former players) will facilitate interactive sessions and breakout groups, which cover all aspects of the changes that occur during transition. Participants will experience a safe, collegial environment that recreates the bonds of the locker room as former players walk through transition together.

“Interacting with other players was reminiscent of training camp and game week preparation,” said former player Lamar Mills.

His wife, Angelique, added, “Since being out of the NFL my husband needed these powerful connections with his peers, those people who could relate and understand what he was experiencing mentally physically, and even financially, and could move forward with him outside an NFL field.”

TAP’s holistic approach toward total wellness gets to the heart of what is on the minds of recently retired players. Providing resources, connections, and relationships that will last a lifetime, TAP will provide the tools for a successful transition. We directly address obstacles that players will encounter to ensure they will succeed.

If you have recently left the playing field and are willing to commit to learning about the different facets of transition, you should attend. In addition, we welcome all spouses/significant others to participate, as well. They will hear from others who have experienced the challenges of transitioning alongside a recently retired player.

“The NFL TAP Program was a blessing to me, my husband, and our marriage,” said Angelique Mills. “It transitioned us to a fresh reality, a reality we have learned to shape for a healthy mind, body, and beautiful life.”

The NFL covers costs associated with the program including materials, lodging, and meals. Participants are asked to cover the cost of travel to and from the program. We also provide voluntary and free health screenings for former players and their spouses.

Lamar Mills acknowledged, “The Transition Assistance Program is the most important program I have attended in the last 17 years.”

Come join your peers and experience transition together.
