Spotlight: The Jack Brewer Foundation

NFL Alumnus Jack Brewer played in the League for five years and served as a team captain for three. He now is the Founder and CEO of The Brewer Group, a global advisory firm that offers financial management, corporate advisory, and sports and entertainment services as well as a highly successful corporate social responsibility initiative. Not only does Brewer work with former and current athletes on successfully managing their money, he also works with high level international diplomats, sports business executives, and financial executives on a daily basis.

Since a young age, Brewer has worked hard to achieve his success, but he attributes many valuable learning experiences and opportunities to the NFL Business Management & Entrepreneurial Programs (BM&E) that were offered to him while he was in the League. Brewer holds two beliefs that have guided him throughout his career:  "Our motivations define our character" and "Today's decisions are tomorrow's realities". Brewer not only graduated with his Masters Degree in Sports Management from the University of Minnesota while playing college football, he also attended the BM&E Programs at both the Harvard Business School and The Wharton School. He has always known that the NFL was simply a stepping stone to a larger dream: making a difference around the world.

“The opportunities that these programs have provided me are invaluable. I had the chance to attend some of the most elite business schools in the country, learn from the brightest minds in the field and work alongside future CEOs and high-level executives of many firms that I now encounter and work with in my own business endeavors.”

Brewer hasn't only made connections on Wall Street since leaving the NFL. He also founded his own non-profit, The Jack Brewer Foundation, in 2006. The Jack Brewer Foundation (JBF Worldwide) works in  areas like food security, education and cultural exchange, medical aid and disaster relief, as well as sport for development. The foundation works to "Empower from Within," providing resources like food, medical supplies and equipment, and school supplies to some of the poorest places in the world, enabling them to create change in their own communities.

Through JBF Worldwide, Brewer offers the unique opportunity for current or former professional athletes to travel to countries like Malawi, Haiti, China and Mexico, to name a few. JBF Worldwide's Global Ambassadors Tour works with various high level partners in these countries to give access to various cultural experiences. Thanks to his strong relationships with President Joyce Banda in Malawi, the Mandela family in South Africa, and the Marley family in Jamaica, Brewer and his foundation have established opportunities for other athletes to capitalize on the endless opportunities presented through sport.

"I am beyond honored to work with these accomplished foundations and incredibly inspiring, legendary leaders - many of whom I consider as my own role models - as we continue to strive towards a global community. Professional athletes have a remarkably profound influence and if used correctly, they can truly make a global impact and create positive change around the world."

Brewer is also thrilled about his newest partnership with the Mandela family to present a Global Empowerment award to an NFL player who creates the largest global impact each year. The award will be entitled the "Nelson Mandela Global Humanitarian Award" and will be presented each year in South Africa on July 18th (known around the world as Mandela Day).

JBF Worldwide began Global Ambassadors Tours in 2008 with a trip to Malawi, Africa and since then has added on additional countries including Haiti and Mexico in 2010 and China in 2011. They are now adding three new stops to their tour in 2014: the Democratic Republic of Congo in partnership with the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation, South Africa in partnership with the Mandela family, and Jamaica in partnership with the Marley family. The next stop this year will be to Haiti in October 2013, where the foundation will be delivering several shipments of medical supplies to clinics throughout the country.

“The Global Ambassadors Tour is another instrumental step towards our goal of mobilizing professional athletes and supporters into various international initiatives in an effort to provide them with further knowledge and expertise as it pertains to global advocacy, cultural diversity, peace and social change,” said Brewer. “We are very excited to continue to expand our global network and provide tangible opportunities for our partners, supporters and JBF Global Ambassadors to be involved in as well as broaden the scope of our events internationally.”
