Amy Nickerson
Amy Nickerson is an academic coach and student-athlete education consultant for Competitive Sports Institute, a company she and her husband formed to address the physical and academic needs of competitive young athletes. She counsels student-athletes and their families about various issues unique to student-athletes such as balancing the demands of school and sports, the NCAA college recruitment process, and general academic support concerns.
Married 26 years to husband Hardy, former NFL All-Pro linebacker and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers Linebackers coach, and also having raised three student-athletes, she has gained extensive knowledge and understanding of sports at the professional, college and high school levels. Now she hopes to share her knowledge and experiences through several books that she is working on. Amy earned both her BA in Afro-American Studies/Social Science and her MA in Education from the University of California at Berkeley. She serves on the Cal Parents Board, the UC Berkeley Library Board, and on various committees focusing on multicultural education, diversity and educational equity.
Amy and her husband reside in Tampa, Florida and have three children – Ashleigh, a recent UC Berkeley graduate, and twins Hardy and Haleigh, who are both UC Berkeley juniors. Hardy Jr. also plays linebacker for the California Golden Bears.
