Security Tip of the Month: Hotel Safety Awareness

By Deana Garner
Director of Player Security Services

You may be traveling this month for football-related events or Spring Break. If you are going to be staying in a hotel, remember to keep the door to your room locked at all times. If you are inside the room, turn the deadbolt and fasten the security chain. Click here for more specific recommendations.

When you leave the room, leave the TV or radio on or put your "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door. These tricks will give potential thieves the impression that you're still there. See this website for further information.

As a key recommendation, always verify with the front desk if someone claiming to be a hotel employee knocks on your door.

Keep your room key with you at all times and don't needlessly display it in public. Should you misplace it, notify the front desk immediately. See this site for more info.

Do not draw attention to yourself by displaying large amounts of cash or expensive jewelry. You never know who is watching you.

The safe is in your hotel room for a reason! Passport, credit cards, and cash should go into the safe.
