NFL INTRODUCES NFL PREP 100 SERIES PRESENTED BY UNDER ARMOUR
Latest NFL Player Engagement Program for Student-Athletes
Kicks Off in 2013 at Five NFL Team Facilities
Top Performers Advance to Leadership Forum in Cleveland
During Rookie Symposium Week
The NFL will kick off the NFL Prep 100 Series Presented by Under Armour in January 2013, it was announced today.
This new NFL Player Engagement initiative will invite high-school student-athletes to five multi-day seminars – at sites spread across the country – focused on personal and professional development in academics and athletics. The first event will begin January 26 in New Orleans at the Saints facility. Subsequent sessions will be held in Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles and Miami.
“With our newest NFL Prep leadership initiative, we are excited to acknowledge and celebrate those extraordinary high school student-athletes who are already demonstrating exceptional leadership qualities in the classroom and on the playing field,” said Troy Vincent, NFL Vice President of Player Engagement.
Each seminar will include classroom sessions stressing player health and safety as well as on-field instruction highlighting technical drills and techniques. Student-athletes will have the opportunity to engage with current and former NFL players who will offer insight on their academic and athletic experiences. Also included is an officiating clinic offering an overview and potential career path program.
Each event will include 100 student-athletes invited based upon academic transcript, athletic experience, leadership activities, coach and teacher recommendations, and personal essays. VTO Sports will facilitate all on-field activities at NFL Prep 100 in conjunction with the NFL. The top performers across the five regional NFL Prep 100 sessions will be selected to attend a leadership forum at the Browns facility in Cleveland next June during the NFL Rookie Symposium.
This NFL Prep 100 Series builds upon earlier NFL Prep initiatives including:
- NFL Prep Sport & Career Expo (Super Bowl, Kickoff and NFL Draft)
- NFL Wharton Prep Leadership Program
- NFL High School Player Development Program
- Partnership with USA Football to provide a premier athlete character development curriculum for U.S. National Teams in football
- Nike Leadership Challenge (Super Bowl and NFL Draft)
NFL Player Engagement assists players in reaching their highest potential on and off-the-field with guidance, support, and resources provided before, during, and after their NFL experiences. NFL Player Engagement works with three core audiences: Prep, Life, and Next. NFL Prep provides high-school and college student-athletes of all sports with tools to help them succeed in life, focused on awareness, prevention, and education.
