March weather comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, but in football we need to stay in lion mode all month.
This is the time when training must be at peak levels for Camps, Spring Football, and the NFL Draft.
Those of you training hard for Spring Football recognize that your 2014 season begins now, not in the heat of August. How you perform during this crucial time could likely determine your fate come Fall.
For those of you training for the NFL Draft or seeking an invitation to an NFL camp as an undrafted free agent, this is quite possibly the most important month of your football experience and the culmination of all the time and effort you have dedicated to this game throughout your lifetime.
Perhaps some of you may have already attended the recent annual NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, or even the first few Regional Combines that began in various cities in February to supplement the Lucas Oil Stadium event by getting you in front of NFL talent evaluators.
If not, then maybe you are attending one of the eight additional Regional Combines coming up across the country every weekend in March, culminating with the best-of-the-best being invited to the Super Regional Combine at Detroit’s Ford Field in mid-April.
Most likely, the lion’s share of you are simply preparing for next season by training for your school’s Spring Football Game, which these days can be played before packed stadiums on national television.
Regardless, whether you are training alone in your yard or attending one of the countless camps that have cropped up everywhere -- including our very own Prep 100 Series that begins its second season this month -- one thing has become crystal clear: March is a massive month on the yearly calendar.
Even more so this year with the wild Winter nationwide that we have all experienced, meaning that for many of you, March may be your first opportunity to train outside.
And as we all know, nothing beats being outside after a long winter, and this year that means most of you no matter how far south you live.
A little spring fever goes a long way toward lifting your spirits both psychologically and physically, enabling you to combine the two and make March the month when you roar out of the gate and into your 2014 football season.
