Player Engagement Begins Transition Coaches Certification

By Karina Knighten
NFL Player Engagement

In the National Football League’s continuing efforts to provide resources and support under the NFL Total Wellness Program, Player Engagement is establishing a new role for the former player as a Transition Coach. Transition Coaches will develop relationships with current and former players at the club level as well as regionally. They will serve as peer counselors, providing guidance as needed, in the following areas (but not limited to): Family, Crisis, Transition, Career, Depression, and Finance.

NFL Player Engagement administered the first modules for the Transition Coaches Certification Training on October 23-24 at the League Office, which covered Life Transitions and Mental Health First Aid. All Transition Coaches must be certified by successfully completing in-person specialized training modules and distance learning online training. The training is specifically designed for former NFL players, and other areas addressed are Relationship Management and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills.

We want to thank our former players and their commitment to developing our men and preserving our game.
