Why I Give Thanks: Corey Peters, Current Atlanta Falcon
As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, NFLPE is placing a special emphasis on the true meaning of Thanksgiving. We’ve asked a few current and former NFL Players to share what Thanksgiving means to them and discuss what they are most thankful for.
We were able to catch up with Atlanta Falcons Defensive Tackle Corey Peters and learn what he enjoys most about the holiday and why he gives thanks.
PE: What are you most thankful for this Thanksgiving?
Peters: I am most thankful to be living my longtime dream as a pro football player. I am thankful that I have been surrounded by supportive people all my life that have molded me into the man that I am today. I am also thankful to be in a position to be an example to today’s youth.
PE: What do you enjoy most about the Thanksgiving holiday?
Peters: I enjoy the love that comes from family on Thanksgiving. In my family it has always been a time to get together and show each other how much we love one another. I also LOVE the food.
PE: What Thanksgiving outreaches have you or do you participate in?
Peters: Every Thanksgiving I try to give out food to the less fortunate. I have also volunteered at a local kitchen that serves the homeless. Over the years this has become a priority to me because I know that there are many individuals and families out there facing difficult circumstances or that weren’t fortunate enough to experience Thanksgiving with a loving family like I did. I hope that by going out and serving others during this holiday, people can feel the love from my heart and know that someone cares.
PE: What’s your favorite Thanksgiving dish?
Peters: I love dressing. I have had many versions of the dish and I love them all.
