Steelers Players and Wives Learn About Their Resources at Dave & Buster’s

By Deana Garner
Director of Player Security Services

Kudos Ray Jackson, Jr.!!  Ray, Steelers’ Director of Player Engagement, in conjunction with sponsor PNC masterfully crafted an engaging and interactive program that was chockfull of benefits, financial, security, and other essential information. The evening program proved to be an effective and creative collaboration between the NFL, NFLPA, and team Security. Various speakers demonstrated care and concern for the more than 37 Steelers players and family members who attended the event by providing essential and resourceful tools related to financial education, regional real estate trends, and legal information. Players and their families were able to acquaint themselves with local resident experts they can call on when needed.

Steelers players and their families expressed gratitude for the benefits and healthcare information that Mary-ann Fleming (NFL Benefits), Bethany Marshall (NFLPA Benefits), and Chris Smith (NFLPA) adeptly facilitated. This was a lively and very interactive discussion after which players and their families remarked they were more informed and empowered. The players and their families also commented that they appreciated being able to meet in person with NFL and NFLPA personnel and that it was beneficial to host the event in an informal setting which fostered an intimate and personal exchange of information.

Players and their families also enjoyed the food that was provided as well as took full advantage of the game tokens they were given to play a few rounds of Skeeball, shoot a few games of basketball, and participate in many of the other games Dave & Buster’s offered. Several of the players and their significant others expressed sincere gratitude for being able to take home various Cigna donated gifts, NFL/NFLPA benefits information, baby bibs, and skull caps.

Players and their significant others remarked that, prior to hearing Clay Fulton’s security presentation, they weren’t familiar with the robust NFL and team services available to them. They expressed appreciation in knowing that they could ask the Steelers and NFL to help them vet prospective babysitters, contractors, or business ventures. They laughed during Clay’s PowerPoint presentation when he showed funny pictures and a video clip of inept would-be vandals trying to break into a business. They seemed to appreciate Clay’s “Do’s and Don’ts” tips to protect your family and residence. They learned what a home survey consists of and the process to have it done.

The evening concluded with more empowered and engaged Steelers players and families who expressed they feel more secure and more informed. And, oh, by the way – they actually had some fun!
